172 Questions to Ask When Doing a Family History Interview

Are you asking yourself what you need to uncover or are you interviewing a family member to try to uncover some little tidbit that can open doors in your research or maybe just provide an insight into a person or family that has since passed on.

Questions can range from the simple, when was Johnny born, to How is our world today different from when you were a child. Here is a list of some possible questions to ask on a research interview with family members.

These questions are intended to allow you to gather information on various family members and as such should be delivered within the course of a conversation. I would also suggest you limit yourself to a few questions at a time. I understand your desire to collect all the details, but remember, your passion for family history may not be a passion for others. While most family members are willing to help you when you explain what you are doing and promise to share your information, some may still prefer to hold onto some privacy, or even to continue to hide secrets.

172 Questions to Ask When Doing a Family History Interview

I carry a small notebook with the list of questions on the first pages. When I am with family members I will record information that correlates to a question, or perhaps insert questions into a conversation where they seem to fit. You may also choose about a dozen of the most important questions and put them into a hard copy questionnaire. You could then mail, or email, them to relations with a brief explanation of what you are doing, and most importantly why.

IF YOU HAD TO PICK A LABEL FOR YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS (your spouse, children, parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts & uncles, cousins), WHO BEST FITS THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTIONS? The best cook; The hardest-worker; the quietest; the best memory; the best gardener; the funniest; the best-looking; the animal lover; the most politically-active; the most mischievous; the calmest; the most athletic; the most intelligent; the most educated; the best career; the most creative; the wildest lifestyle; the most sociable; the biggest tease; the best housekeeper; the most reclusive; the most colorful; the most relaxed; the most frugal; the most generous; the tallest; the shortest; the best story-teller.

Although I had long 'interviews' with my grandmother and other relations it wasn't until after the death of both grandparents that I uncovered the 'scandal' of grandmother's pre-marital pregnancy and delivery of a daughter. In fact, I didn't even know the child had existed as she died at about the age of two. A lifetime cannot really be related in a few minutes of with answers to a few questions. These are only suggestions to help you ferret out the information that will help you find your family roots, and more importantly understand the people who made you who you are today.

How Do I Download Music to My Mp3 Player?

Well it all depends on what you want to do. Do you want to take the music from a cd and put it on your Mp3 player, or do want to directly download music tracks from the internet on to your Mp3 player. If you want to get music from a cd onto your Mp3 player, you will first need copy your cd with windows media player or another cd playing software. You will need to change the format into "Mp3" format by "ripping" it. "Ripping" a CD is basically copying music to your computer.

After you have the files properly formatted on your hard drive, you can remove the drive from your mp3 player and plug it into a "usb" port on your computer. You then go to your hard drive, find the files you copied, making sure they are in the proper format, and then move them to the drive of your Mp3 player.

Music

OK lets say you want to download music directly from the internet. You need to see if any special software is required to assist in the downloading process. Normally you wont need any. You just hook up your device to a "usb" port, go to your settings and look for "usb mode" or connect. With some devices you wont need to do anything, because they will automatically be detected as a removable hard drive.

How Do I Download Music to My Mp3 Player?

Next you will need to find out where the files will be stored. Depending on which music download vendor you choose, some will allow you to buy one track at a time, if this is the case you can download one track and see where on your device the file was stored, and then proceed to buy further tracks and choose the same location to store them. If not, the files can be stored in different locations and the device will find them once you disconnect from the port.

Rascal Flatts Bio

One of America's well-known country bands is the band from Columbus, Ohio which calls itself the Rascal Flatts. The band is made up of just three members Gary, Jay and Joe. On lead vocals there is Gary LeVox, on bass guitar, keyboards and vocals is his cousin Jay DeMarcus and on lead guitar and vocals there is Joe Don Rooney.

The band was formed by the two cousins who come from a musical family in Ohio, Columbus. Before the band was formed Jay DeMarcus had moved out of Ohio to look for better opportunities in Nashville where he got his first record deal to be part of a Christian group. This was in 1992 and after five more years he finally convinced his cousin to quit his current job and enter the music industry.

Gospel Music

Music is an artistic expression of the mind and feelings of the people who create it. An expression of emotional zeal and praise, as it is being considered nowadays, gospel music is now a successful branch of music to some extent.

It is believed that gospel music refers to the religious music created by the African-American churches during the 1930s. Similarly, it also refers to both this black gospel music as well as pious music composed and sung by white southern Christian artists. Neither of these two styles has been clearly defined; hence, sometimes an artist from one branch of gospel music sings the songs of the other branch.

Music

The separation between black and white American churches has always kept the two branches of gospel music apart. And though the divisions have narrowed in the past 50 years, black gospel and southern or white gospel still have their own distinctions.

Gospel Music

During the development of gospel music in the 1930s, Thomas Dorsey created songs combining shouts of praise and emotional fervor with his own contemporary style; hence, he was named the Father of Contemporary Gospel, and the 30s were called the Dorsey Era. During that time, Dorsey?s songs were mostly unwelcome in some U.S. churches.

To date, there are composers and performers of gospel music all over the world.

Gospel music is ever-changing and has evolved over several years. Gospel ensembles and quartets came to life in the 40s while piano or organs were added during the 50s. Gospel music also abounds with noted artists and performers like Mahalia Jackson, The Golden Gate Quartet, Clara Ward, Jordanaires, Al Green, Solomon Burke, The Staple Singers of Chicago, Albertina Walker, Yolanda Adams, and others.

If you are fond of gospel music, there are many record stores and distributors that offer CDs and tapes of gospel music. DVDs of gospel music concerts or performances are also available. If you?re longing for gospel music mp3s, the web has much to offer. There are sites that offer these mp3s as free downloads and streaming while some offer packages for a sum. In case you?re new to gospel music and want to further your learning, many magazines, journals, and online sites are offering information on artists and performers and on the history of gospel music.

How to Make a Bamboo Flute For Homemade Music

Want to know how to make a bamboo flute for your own homemade music? Flute making with bamboo can be really simple, as most of the work is done for you by way of the natural hollows that are grown into the bamboo. However, there's just a little bit of math involved in figuring out how to make a flute the right length for the fundamental note (the lowest not that you can play, with all fingers covering every hole), and for how to make flute finger-hole placements precise, as well as the embouchure (blowing edge hole). The one, simple, all-important mathematical formula to do the job, is really very easy to understand. Allow me to show you...

To understand how to make a bamboo flute, you'll need to be aware of two basic numbers in flute making in order to make perfect homemade music. The numbers to know for how to make a flute with perfect tuning are; the linear measurement for how far sound travels per second, and; the number of Hertz (the vibratory frequency) of any particular notes you will have the flute play. But to correctly gage the sound, first we need to know how to make flute embouchures. For this example, we'll use a transverse (or "side-blown") flute. It's very simple - make the hole for this be about half the width of the bore diameter, and have the hole's center point be situated at one bore diameter's distance from the inside of the closed end. Bevel one edge on the inside at an acute angle for the best "airstream splitting edge".

Music

Okay, now for the numbers and how to use them in making our bamboo flute, and superb homemade music. The distance sound travels per second, at sea level, and at about 70 degrees F (or 21 degrees C), is 13526.5 inches (or 34357.31 centimeters). Now you take the frequency number of the note, which for this example we'll say the fundamental note will be "A", which would be 440, and divide the previous number by this one. What you will get is the length of one wavelength for this note, in this case 30.74 inches, or 70.08 centimeters.

How to Make a Bamboo Flute For Homemade Music

How to make a flute body the correct length for this is now to divide this measurement by two, which would make it about 15 3/8 inches, or 35.04 centimeters. You'll find that due to other factors in flute making, such as bore diameter and flute body wall thickness, you may need to shorten this a little bit more to get the note precisely - do this a little at a time. Use this same formula to find out how to make flute finger-hole placements along the length according to the notes you wish them to play, and there you have it!
